• Restored Piper
Comanche
N3SD has been in the Family since 1966, purchased by Steve Danish after learning to fly the year he retired
from racing. It was built in Lockhaven PA , and certified to fly Sept 1958, making it 50 years old this year. This is the 50th anniversary of Piper Comanches and the line which stretched to 4000+models and ended production in 1972 with the PA flood. This PA 24-180 serial #380 has been modified somewhat from its original production. It has had several
avionics updates to keep up with the changing airspace system. It now contains: a full autopilot system,
coupled to the navigation radios, for enroute and approach, as well as a current moving map GPS with
database. Communications are accomplished by two state of the art 760 channel VHF radios, with an
altitude reporting Air Traffic Control transponder. King Distance measuring equipment for VOR,is installed, also, two 200 channel navigation receivers, with full ILS landing systems, and dual glideslope indicators.
A Ryan Storm scope is installed to avoid hazardous weather. Recent additions include a handheld backup
radio, a traffic avoidance reporting unit to locate other aircraft while in flight called PCAS. [portable collision avoidance system] Onboard wingtip strobes, center double flash red strobe, and led external lighting with two 200,000 candle power landing lights complete the external day and night recognition. A standby emergency Instrument vacuum system is also installed.
Airframe modifications are as follows: One piece windshield, 1/4 sound proof windows, New interior and seats
by Airtex, Performance Products, dual exhaust system, Alcor Alternator conversion, Knots2you speed mods,
New Hartzell performance propeller, stainless brake rotors, Metcoair wingtips,K&N air filter system, and
Unison ignition magneto upgrade with platinum spark plugs. Future plans for a New Engine are in place for
next year.
